Houston Market Leader

The Houston Market Leader will serve as the senior representative for TMS in the Greater Houston region. This is a strategic growth and leadership position, responsible for client relationships, project delivery, and business development.

The Market Leader will lead a team of arborists and consultants, managing projects that range from feasibility studies and design consulting to construction-phase monitoring and long-term asset management.

This role is ideal for a senior arborist or landscape design, installation, or management professional with proven leadership, strong knowledge of trees and real estate development/management, and a passion for advancing sustainable growth in one of the nation’s largest metro areas.

Key Responsibilities

  • Client & Market Leadership
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for Houston-area clients (developers, engineers, municipalities, general contractors and HOAs).
  • Identify new business opportunities and lead pursuit efforts for proposals, RFQs, and strategic partnerships.
  • Represent TMS at industry events, professional organizations (ASLA, ULI, GHBA, etc.), and community forums.
  • Project Management & Technical Expertise
  • Oversee tree surveys, risk assessments, preservation plans, and tree care contractor operations.
  • Review and provide feedback on draft site plans, feasibility studies, and development submittals.
  • Deliver tree care recommendations and coordinate with contractors during construction.
  • Ensure compliance with Houston-area tree ordinances and regional preservation requirements.
  • Team Leadership
  • Lead and mentor a local team of arborists and consultants.
  • Manage workload, resource planning, and staff development.
  • Foster a culture of excellence, accountability, and client-focused service.
  • Business Operations
  • Collaborate with TMS leadership on budgets, staffing, and growth strategy.
  • Track key performance metrics, including utilization, revenue targets, and client satisfaction.
  • Contribute to marketing and proposal development.

Qualifications

  • Education & Certification
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s in Landscape Architecture, Forestry, Environmental Science, Urban Planning, or related field.
  • ISA Certified Arborist required (or ability to obtain within 3 months); Board Certified Master Arborist or TRAQ preferred.
  • Experience
  • 8–12+ years of experience in urban forestry, arboriculture consulting, or landscape architecture.
  • Proven track record of managing consulting projects and leading client relationships.
  • Demonstrated success in business development and market growth.
  • Skills
  • Strong knowledge of tree preservation ordinances and permitting in Texas municipalities.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and proposal-writing skills.
  • Ability to manage complex projects, multiple priorities, and cross-disciplinary teams.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Competitive base salary ($100,000 – $130,000+ DOE).
  • Performance incentives paid quarterly (target of 20-30%+ of base salary based on performance)
